THE TROPICAL
This ordinary story of Sonny inspired us to explore the little things in everyday tropical living. It helped us shape the clothing and styles for The Tropical chapter.
What a Beautiful Waste of Time
They called him Sonny.
Not because he was always smiling, or because life had been particularly kind to him. The name had simply stuck, much like his habit of following the sun wherever it went.
An old shirt, comfortable shorts and sandals that had seen better days. Nothing particularly special. Just the things that always felt right.

The sun was already high when he arrived.
The little cafés were busy, and boats bobbed beyond the shore.
Nothing much had changed since his last visit. That suited him just fine.

A few familiar rituals before settling down. The smell of sunscreen, warm sand beneath his feet, and the sound of waves coming ashore.
The afternoon was his.

The tide came in. The tide went out.
Somewhere beyond the shore, an old fishing boat made its way home.
Hours passed without a single thing accomplished.
What a beautiful waste of time.

By late afternoon, he'd had enough of the sea. Not that there was anything wrong with it. There were simply other things to do.
A shirt thrown on, his belongings gathered, and off he went.
The day wasn't over yet.

A little stall, something sweet for the walk, and a few more minutes spent doing nothing particularly important.
There was no reason to hurry.

The streets were busy, and the afternoon heat lingered between the buildings.
Perhaps he'd find somewhere good to eat, meet a friend, or simply keep walking.
Familiar things over his shoulder, and nowhere in particular he needed to be.
Nothing remarkable had happened. Just an ordinary day, and a rather good one at that.
Tomorrow might be different.
But knowing Sonny, he'd probably follow the sun again.
